Beginners course for students 59+

Juliet Cobb, a long-standing teacher at the Balmain Iyengar Yoga Studio, will be offering a 5 week Beginners foundation course for more mature students, starting on Wednesday November 13 and finishing on December 18.

Using a gentle and methodical approach, this class aims to introduce Iyengar Yoga to those who feel they are looking for a little more support than a regular Beginners class. It is often perceived that the normal courses may move foreword at a pace not suitable to those who are more restricted or less able in their movements.

The pace in these classes will be slower and adjusted to the group. Emphasis will be given to creating a stable base to work the body from. Some supports and modifications will be used as needed to give balance and support in the postures.

The course is structured to make the postures accessible to the older student, whilst still facilitating the benefits of a greater range of movement and gaining more strength and flexibility through the practice of yoga postures.

The classes are sequenced to allow the student to gain greater understanding and ease in the the various yoga postures. Each session builds on and consolidates what was practised the week before.

The aim of this course is to gradually build confidence and clarity in how to use yoga postures for greater physical and mental wellbeing.
